It is essential that, for diagnosis of B12 deficiency, you do not take any form of B12 supplements or injections before having the metabolite tests.

There are two main methods for treating vitamin B12 deficiency:

  • Injected vitamin B12
  • Oral vitamin B12 supplements

Further options for each of these will be explained on these pages.

There are strong arguments, put forward by experts and patients, in favour of each method. You will need to decide what is best for you; I suggest that you read all of the information available before making a decision about your own treatment.
